Wednesday was the 7th of December which marked the 70th anniversary date of the attack on Pearl Harbor. My wife, Diane, and I were lucky enough to attend the commemoration day. The Mistress Of Ceremonies, Leslie Wilcox, did an excellent job from the Welcoming to the Moment of Silence, announcing the Missing Man Flyover followed by the Presentation of Colors and the National Anthem with a Prayer for Peace. Then came the introduction of the Key Speakers; The Honorable Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior and The Honorable Ray Mabus, Secretary of the Navy. The Keynote Speaker, a Pearl Harbor Survivor, Mr. Mal Middlesworth gave a heart-filled speech and kept the attention of every person. Leslie Wilcox followed with recognition to each group of surviving heros from that day that became part of America’s history. She then followed with the Battle Site Wreath Presentations, Benediction, the Rifle Salute, the sound of Taps, Retiring the Colors and the Walk of Honor. All of this took place where everyone was able to see the USS Arizona Monument.
This was obviously a day that I will remember and I am sure the thousands of people in attendance will also have this day locked into their memory for life.
Go out and make it a successful day!
